For this project I decided to go with Alice in Wonderland. The first point of order was coming up with the setting which would determine the rest of the aesthetic and plot for the advert. A sporting event of sorts was chosen, that being a motorsport event. A fast-pace drifting competition would be the setting for all this. We start off with Alice on track practicing on her own will and utterly failing at holding a drift at all. Back in the pits rather dejected the Cheshire Cat walks up with a solution, being this brand new potion which instantly gives you very high drifting skill. Coincidentally the Queen of Hearts happens to walk up to Alice in the pits and challenges Alice to a little drift competition, to be judged by the Gryphon. The Queen goes first and puts on a good display scoring a 9/10 as judged by the Gryphon. Alice then takes to the track and astounds the Gryphon beyond belief in a proper smoking tyre show scoring 11/10. Thanks to the potion which Alice had just ingested she was bestowed upon with enough skill to win this competition set by the Queen.
The challenge here was keeping a link to the original characters whilst also creating something new and never before seen. Logically since they were on track both Alice and the Queen were wearing racing suits, usually these suits have some sort of pattern on them or sponsors of sort. Which is why I decided to put patterns on their suits and also helmets which were indicative of how they dressed in the original story. Hence Alice’s short sleeves, apron and knee socks pattern on her suit aswell as the Queen’s royal décor and hearts on hers. The cars were also cleared marked with a decal of whose car it was to further keep the identification going. The Cheshire Cat was based on the form of realistic cats but provided with a sort of rough and sparce striped pattern inspired by the Cheshire Cat. The Gryphon was a simplified and stylised from of a Griffin and the Knave was unused although was drawn as a sort of mechanic would remain in the pits mostly.
Since this advert is intended to be fast-paced the initial shot of Alice hopelessly trying to drift would set the stage for this. With Alice drifting into frame, the camera would then track her and she would immediately lose control, followed by a cut to the interior showing Alice venting her frustration. Another cut to show we’ve moved to the pits and the Cheshire Cat approaches holding the potion, the Queen appears shortly after challenging Alice. Cut to a closeup of part of the rear end of the Queen’s car showing the drift initiating, the camera would track the car and also swing round to show the front with the Queen in the driver’s seat. Cut to an interior view closeup of the Queen with a fast zoom into her helmet. Cut to the scoreboard of the Gryphon to see her score. Cut initially an empty shot, you hear Alice’s car revving in the near distance and she just appears on screen from the right side of the shot with a huge cloud of tyre smoke bellowing out from behind her. The camera then cuts to a rear view of the action, similar to the Queen’s one although this one significantly more impressive. Cut to the scoreboard again to see Alice astounded the Gryphon and winning. Then the last shot is dedicated to the product itself, being the most lengthy shot in the advert.
